Autumn is the time when the mountains take on a new look, the woods burst into warm colours and the days still invite you to enjoy the region’s great outdoors, with walks, local flavours, culture and traditions.
It is also a season packed with events: harvest festivals, markets, fairs and celebrations that reflect the identity of a region deeply rooted in the mountains and its communities.
To make the most of this season, the Alpissima hotels offer four base locations in some of the most charming towns in the Aosta Valley: Aosta, Courmayeur and La Thuile.

The journey can begin in the heart of the Aosta Valley, in Aosta, where the small but charming urban atmosphere of the ancient regional capital blends with the Alpine landscape.
Autumn is a particularly pleasant time to explore the city at a more leisurely pace: strolling through the streets of the historic centre, admiring the Roman and medieval remains, visiting museums and archaeological sites, or stopping off at a café to savour traditional Aosta Valley specialities.

Gastronomy is indeed one of the season’s central themes. The autumn calendar is packed with opportunities to discover local produce and traditions: grapes, apples, chestnuts, honey, black bread, Fontina and many other specialities all reflect a culinary culture deeply rooted in the mountains.
Among the events to note in your diary is the Marché au Fort, taking place on 10 and 11 October in the medieval village of Bard, at the foot of the Fort. Over 70 producers will be showcasing the finest food and wine from the Aosta Valley at one of the region’s leading events dedicated to local specialities.
On the same weekend, in Gressan, Mele Vallée returns – an exhibition and market dedicated to one of the region’s most iconic agricultural products.

On 17 and 18 October, it will be the turn of ‘Lo Pan Ner – The Breads of the Alps’: the communal ovens in numerous villages across the Aosta Valley will once again be fired up to bake traditional black rye bread, in keeping with a custom deeply rooted in the life of mountain communities.
In Châtillon, on 24 and 25 October, honey will take centre stage at the traditional Honey Festival, dedicated to the work of beekeepers and the products of the hive.
These events offer an opportunity to discover the Aosta Valley through its flavours, but above all through the people and communities who still keep these traditions alive today

On 25 October, at the Arena Croix Noire in Aosta, one of the region’s most significant traditional events takes place: the final of the Bataille de Reines. Cows from the Aosta Valley compete in a natural, non-violent contest, in an event that brings together local communities, enthusiasts and visitors every year.

The Alpissima hotels in Aosta, each with their own distinct style but united by a shared philosophy of hospitality, are the perfect base from which to explore the city and the surrounding area.
The Hotel Duca d’Aosta, deeply inspired by the design of the 1950s and 1960s, brings a retro and sophisticated yet practical atmosphere to the city centre.

The OMAMA Social Hotel, on the other hand, offers a creative and dynamic take on hospitality, with colourful spaces, design, art and a strong focus on social interaction.

Between one event and the next, there’s a valley to enjoy in the great outdoors. Between October and November, the woods and valleys of the Aosta Valley gradually change colour, offering one of the most captivating spectacles of the year: the autumn foliage.
From the valley floor to the highest peaks, larch, beech, maple and other tree species are tinged with shades of yellow, orange, red and gold. It is the ideal time to walk along footpaths and forest tracks, leaving the hustle and bustle behind and rediscovering the rhythm of the mountains.
From Val Ferret to Val Veny, there are plenty of ways to spend a day in the great outdoors, alternating between views of Mont Blanc and walks through the woods and alpine villages.
In the heart of Courmayeur, the Gran Baita Luxury Alpine Resort is the ideal base from which to experience this part of the Aosta Valley, surrounded by nature, wellness, fine dining and warm hospitality.

La Thuile, too, takes on a more intimate and peaceful atmosphere in autumn.
Surrounded by vast natural landscapes with equally breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, it is the ideal destination for those who love walking and immersing themselves in nature.
Here you’ll find Le Miramonti Alpine Hotel, a historic hotel belonging to the Alpissima group in the centre of La Thuile, where Alpine tradition, hospitality and a focus on wellbeing come together.
